Celebrating Jane Sapp: Singing Up Courage and Community

Join Jane Sapp and special guests at “Celebrating Jane Sapp: Singing Up Courage and Community,” a lifetime achievement award ceremony in Atlanta, GA in October 2026. The exact date, time, and location will be announced soon. The award is sponsored and organized by the Jane Sapp Legacy Project to recognize Jane as a national cultural leader and beloved teacher of music and song.

“Celebrating Jane Sapp: Singing Up Courage and Community” is designed to meet three goals:

1. To honor Jane, our national treasure and a cultural leader of the U.S. Civil Rights and Black Power movements who is still active in communities today;

2. To celebrate Jane’s 80th birthday, which occurred on June 21

3. To generate resources to support Jane’s independent life in Atlanta and her continuing work on the Jane Sapp Legacy Project, a sponsoree of the Highlander Research and Education Center.

Our inaugural co-sponsors are: Alternate Roots; Highlander Center; Horizons Project; and 22nd Century Initiative.
